Actor-comedian John Witherspoon Dies Aged 77

American Film and Television comic John Witherspoon is no more. The star who was best known for his role as the crotchety dad in the Friday films, has died at 77.
Witherspoon's family took to Twitter to confirm his death in Los Angeles on Wednesday:
"It is with deepest sorrow  that we can confirm our beloved husband and father, John Witherspoon, one of the hardest working men i show business, died today at his home in Sherman Oaks at the age of 77,"
 read the tweet.
Born in Detroit in 1942, the actor had a prolific career. His first roles were on the 1970s TV shows such as Barnaby Jones and The Richard Pryor Show. His most recognizable role was Pops, Ice Cube's father in the stoner comedy Friday and its two sequels films, he played a rude but affectionated father trying to guide his son to be better.
John also appeared on the The Wayans Bros television series and voicing the grandfather in The Boondocks animated series.
His film roles included Vampire in Brooklyn and Boomerang, and he was a frequent guest on Late Show with David Letterman.
